2018 traveling summer exhibits at Roanoke Island Festival Park

New Summer Exhibits at the Park

Summer is finally here and we have the perfect way to kick off the new season. While visiting the park this summer, make plans to tour our two new exhibits, Post from the Coast and Flying Kites with Delia. The exhibits tie in perfectly with the history of the season and evoke a sense of summer nostalgia. Experience these exhibits first-hand beginning June 21 in the ticket sales gallery. The exhibits will open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and are brought to us by the Museum of the Albemarle

Post from the Coast

Post from the Coast traveling exhibit at Roanoke Island Festival Park

Post from the Coast, features a curated collection of vintage and modern postcards that depict scenes from coastal North Carolina. The exhibit includes nostalgic and contemporary images of beaches, transportation, architecture, and recreation. Adding to the experience, several cards have been enhanced for viewing with 3-D glasses.

Flying Kites with Delia

Flying Kites with Delia, traveling exhibit at Roanoke Island Festival Park

Flying Kites with Delia, is a children’s exhibit that highlights the significance of kites throughout history. From innovation to recreation, visitors can learn how kites were used by Benjamin Franklin, the Wrights Brothers, and in various military operations. Guests can also discover different types of kites and how they are enjoyed by kiteboarders and beachgoers today.

After visiting, you might be inspired to send your own post from the coast. The Museum Stores offer a variety of Roanoke Island and Outer Banks themed postcards so you can send a special note to your friends and family. You can also pick up one of our decorative spinner kites to add to your front porch. Whether you're traveling the coast or just enjoying simple pleasures like flying a kite, we hope you all have a happy and safe summer.
