Why did North Carolinians fight in the American Revolution? For freedom, for money, because they had no choice - and often for a mix of reasons.
Nearly 22,000 North Carolinians served throughout the Revolution, from the Carolinas to Valley Forge and beyond. Now, explore their experiences through original records from the State Archives of North Carolina, including military, recruitment, defense, and supply documents that bring their stories to life.
Join us, along with the NC State Archives, for a ‘One-Day Wonder’ event showcasing original documents with firsthand experiences of the Revolutionary War. These documents will be on display at Roanoke Island Festival Park on Tuesday, November 3rd, from 10 am to 4 pm in the Indoor Theater, across from the Adventure Museum. This event is free to the public and does not require a park ticket.
We’re still celebrating America 250 at RIFP!
