Revisiting Cornerstones: The Louis Orr Etchings of North Carolina exhibit opens at Roanoke Island Festival Park

Revisiting Cornerstones: The Louis Orr Etchings of North Carolina exhibit is now open at Roanoke Island Festival Park. This exhibit is on loan from the Greenville Museum of Art and will be on display in the ticket sales temporary exhibit space Tuesday – Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., through August 12. This free exhibit is open to the public.

This exhibit showcases nearly 50 etchings of North Carolina landmarks, initiated through the preservation efforts of Robert Lee Humber, and created by Louis Orr between 1939 and 1951. Many of the locations are well known and regularly visited today, but some of them are no longer standing. Importantly, this exhibition promotes discussions of the places and histories we remember and memorialize. It also illuminates the complexities of how, when, and why we remember certain places, people, and events, yet forget others.
