Experience our Summer Programs
Our summer programs allow you to immerse yourself in 16th century history through fun and interactive demonstrations. Join the crew on the Elizabeth II ship and participate in firing the sling gun or watch the small arms demonstration in the Settlement Site. Our summer programs are held Tuesday - Friday from June to August. See the full schedule below.

2026 Summer Programs Schedule
Enjoy Story Hour at the Park with your littles! Read along with one of our educators. Happening in the lobby of the Adventure Museum on Tuesdays at 10:00 am between June 9th and August 22nd.
Guns were an important part of the safety of passengers and crew members during the Roanoke Voyages. Come smell the gunpowder and shout Huzah for England! When we fire the sling gun on the Elizabeth II this summer. The gun drill is held Tuesday - Friday at 12:00 pm through August.
English Settlers was a variety of new plants and animals when they arrived on Roanoke Island and described them for people back home in England. Lots of those plants and animals are still around! See if you can draw a Roanoke Island plant or animal based only on a description of it and take home your results!
Ropes have been used for all sorts of purposes throughout history, especially on the ships that brought the first English settlers to Roanoke Island. Come to the Adventure Museum to learn how rope is made and try your hand at it yourself with our ropemaking machine!
English settlers approached settlement in the new world as a military endeavor. Roanoke Island Festival Park is the only historic site in the state to demonstrate match lock small arms. Come learn about a type of firearm called an Arquebus and see it fired live in the Settlement Site. The small arms demonstration is held on Thursdays at 2 pm through August.
